January 2, 2006: The Ogilvy & Mather India Board is delighted to announce the addition of a new member to its India Board.
Ogilvy & Mather India today announced Marcia Silverman, as the newest member elected to the Ogilvy India Board. Ms Silverman, Chief Executive Officer, Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, is located in Washington, DC, with responsibility for worldwide operations.
Piyush Pandey, Chairman & National Creative Director, Ogilvy & Mather said, “Marcia is a PR professional of international standing, and her inclusion in the Indian Board is going to add a lot of experience to our thinking. We will use her expertise to give a fresh thrust to our ambitious plans in the world of Public Relations.”
While this move was initiated to replace an outgoing director, the opportunity to draw on Marcia’s extraordinary talent for India only serves to emphasise Ogilvy’s commitment to 360 Brand Communications in the way forward.
“India’s economic rise is coming on rapidly now, as is the influence it wields,” said Ms Silverman. “So it will need to look beyond its own borders to manage perceptions in the West and in China as it takes its place at the global table. I am delighted to help it do so with my colleagues from the Ogilvy family.”
Marcia, a 20-year veteran of Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, has built it into a truly global and connected network of professionals, spanning 60 cities on 6 continents. It won “agency of the year” recognition four years running and was named International Agency of the Year in 2003.
PR Week recognized Marcia’s contribution to the industry by profiling her as one of the 50 Most Powerful Women in PR and as one of the 100 Most Influential PR Professionals in the 20th century. Previously, the Washington Women in Public Relations organization honored her as one of three outstanding women in public relations. Marcia has received a Public Relations Star Award given by Inside PR, for excellence in public relations.
Prior to joining Ogilvy PR, Marcia was with the public relations division of J. Walter Thompson in New York. During her tenure there, she supported a variety of clients, including the National Consumers Federation of America and several major pharmaceutical companies. Marcia has also worked for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), where she was deputy director of public affairs and later director of women’s activities. Marcia has served on the board of the Women’s Campaign Fund and is on the board of directors of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund.
She holds a graduate degree and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
John Goodman, CEO (India & South Asia), Ogilvy & Mather said, “Marcia’s skill and experience will be a great asset to our development of 360 Degree Brand Stewardship in India.”
