Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide Announces One New Senior Addition and Two Promotions to its Healthcare Practice

Appointments Reinforce Agency’s Commitment to Providing Superior Healthcare Communications

Washington, D.C., June 12, 2007 – Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide (Ogilvy PR), a leading global communications firm, announced today the promotion of Susan Hirsch and Jeanine O’Kane to Head of the U.S. Healthcare Practice and Head of the New York Healthcare Practice, respectively, and the addition of media veteran Chris Loder as Senior Vice President.  All will provide valuable contributions to the flourishing Healthcare practice and continue to provide superior counsel and strategic planning to pharmaceutical firms, healthcare providers and other clients across the entire global network.

Hirsch has more than 16 years of healthcare communications experience across a range of areas, including corporate communications, global brand positioning, core global programming, pipeline communications, issues management, category expansion, consumer awareness, U.S. and global product approvals and launches, as well as media relations for financial, trade and consumer media.  She originally joined Ogilvy PR in 2002 and has led pre-approval, launch and marquee positioning programs for high profile and blockbuster brands.  More recently, Hirsch has been overseeing brand, advocacy and franchise positioning for Bristol-Myers Squibb’s oncology franchise.

O’Kane joined Ogilvy PR in 2005 and brings over 15 years of experience engaging clients on diversified healthcare and pharmaceutical issues and related communication areas, including issues and crisis management, consumer outreach, grassroots lobbying and legislative support, advocacy relationship development, product lifecycle communication and clinical trial recruitment support.  She has provided strategic public relations counsel for numerous clients at several communications firms.  O’Kane was previously in the communications department at Berlex Laboratories (now Bayer Healthcare).  In addition to her pharmaceutical work, O’Kane served as a legislative aide to a member of the NYS Assembly, in which she provided day-to-day legislative counsel and support in healthcare, energy and utilities, insurance and chemicals. 

Loder has joined the agency as a Senior Vice President after six years of working in the Media Relations/Public Affairs Department at Merck & Co., Inc., a leading research-based pharmaceutical company, where he served as one of the lead media relations representatives.   He is a seasoned communications professional with nearly 20 years of experience in journalism, media relations and public affairs.  During his tenure at Merck, Loder counseled senior executives on media strategy, secured top-tier coverage of its leading brands, prepared messaging and briefing documents for two CEOs, and defended the company’s products and reputation in the news media.  He served as one of the lead media relations representatives regarding Merck’s voluntary withdrawal of VIOXX in 2004, and the announcement of Richard T. Clark as the new CEO in 2005.  In 2006, Chris garnered major media coverage surrounding the FDA approval of five Merck medicines and vaccines, including GARDASIL, the world’s only vaccine to prevent cervical cancer.
