Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide Reinforces Presence in California with New Leadership Team

Michael Law Takes the Lead as California Managing Director

San Francisco, CA, November 16, 2004 — Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide (Ogilvy PR) today announced its new California leadership with the appointment of Michael Law as California managing director and the addition of new practice leaders. Law, a 14-year veteran of Ogilvy PR and formerly the agency’s president of Southeast Asia, will lead the growth and operations of Ogilvy PR’s offices in San Francisco (where he is based), Los Angeles and Sacramento. West Coast leadership is bolstered with the arrival of senior vice president and technology group director, Margaret Gifford, who has relocated to San Francisco from Ogilvy PR in New York, and consumer marketing professional, Monica Bouldin, who joins Ogilvy PR in Los Angeles to anchor the consumer marketing practice.

“These changes reflect our commitment to our clients across the state and to California as a growth market in general,” said Marcia Silverman, CEO of Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide. “Michael brings a world of experience to this new position and we look forward to a strengthened presence under his leadership—featuring new management, new talent and a deep commitment to client service.”

Michael Law’s career at Ogilvy PR is highlighted by 10 years in Washington, D.C. in the public affairs practice, and two years each in Hong Kong and Singapore. Law’s experience and understanding of the Asian markets will drive the agency’s Pacific Rim business growth strategy.

“The depth of our presence and talent in China, India and SE Asia gives us the unique ability to help businesses build powerful brands on both sides of the Pacific,” Law said. “I look forward to forging a more formal link with our Asia Pacific network.”

“We have worked with Michael extensively in Asia and Ogilvy PR in both Asia and Europe. Their focus on the Pacific Rim is a smart business move, particularly for companies in the financial sector,” said David Petrou, Global Public Communications Manager at Jones Day. “Asian companies listing in the U.S. will find seamless agency support and great value from Michael’s vision for regional and global strategy across the two Continents.”

Energized and Focused Senior Talent Across the Board
Adding to the firm’s new senior leadership team, Margaret Gifford now heads California’s technology practice and will work with Michael Law to strengthen the agency’s corporate credentials. Gifford was formerly a senior vice president in the agency’s New York office, heading the Deloitte & Touche, LLP account. Bringing a unique combination of bi-coastal corporate and technology expertise, Gifford previously served in senior communications roles at Openwave Systems, Hewlett-Packard and Citigate Cunningham.

Public Relations veteran Monica Bouldin will now lead the consumer marketing practice and take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the LA office. Bouldin’s PR career includes several years at Warner Bros. and, most recently, Ruder Finn.

LA-based James Williams has returned to Ogilvy PR to head up the West Coast focus of Ogilvy PR’s national Strategy & Planning group, driving new business and creative execution for California clients.

The Ogilvy PR network in California has a diverse client base, including biotechnology, government projects in Sacramento, high-tech leaders in Silicon Valley, and leading lifestyle brands in Southern California. With its new leadership and new focus, Ogilvy PR clients are already seeing a difference.

“There is no question that Ogilvy PR is dedicated to keeping our business communications strategy fresh, focused and full of creativity. We’ve worked with Ogilvy PR for more than three years and today we’re seeing a truly positive change in the level and quality of leadership,” said Karen Kahn, Sun Microsystems’ Director of Brand Communications. “We have a smart and hard-working team that is focused on building Sun’s reputation as an unparalleled innovator and a leading provider of industrial-strength hardware, software and services that make the Net work.”

B|W|R, the entertainment subsidiary of Ogilvy PR, will continue to be run by Larry Winokur, Paul Baker and Nanci Ryder.
