Washington, D.C., October 6, 2011 - Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide (Ogilvy Washington) announced today a significant senior hire to the 360° Digital Influence practice. José Martínez Salmerón has joined Ogilvy Washington as a senior vice president and creative director for the group.
“As user experiences on the Web become more personal and take-on a more innovate platforms, we wanted to offer a top-notch strategy and design visionary to our clients,” said Robert Mathias, president of Ogilvy Washington. “The breadth and depth of José’s experience – both within verticals and platforms – made him a perfect addition to our team.”
Salmerón’s approach is built on user-centric and iterative design and his portfolio includes interfaces for Web sites, tablet & mobile apps, desktop software, interactive TV experiences, as well as brand identities and marketing collateral.
Salmerón joins Ogilvy Washington from Cell Division in New York City, where he was Creative Director. Prior to that, he exercised the roles of Director of Visual Design for DC-based agency EightShapes, and Associate Creative Director at frog design. He also served in creative roles at Yahoo!, the University of California Irvine, and Organic. His former clients include Cisco, U.S. Department of Energy, Sprint, Motorola, HP, The Body Shop, Coca-Cola, Merck and Pfizer.
Salmerón has written about the intersection of creativity, business and technology for Design Mind, Global Entrepreneur, Interactions, and I.D. (The International Design Magazine). For six years, he played the role of independent trends and innovation advisor for the management team of Japan’s premier financial institution: Nikkei (“Nihon Keizai Shimbun’s” Electronic Media Bureau). He has lectured on design and branding at Poynter Institute, San Francisco State University, and University of Málaga (Spain), among other venues.

José holds a Ph.D. from the University of Málaga, as well as a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Spain’s University of Navarra.
