Ogilvy PR will support all communications efforts surrounding the awards program, specifically developing and executing the awards’ messaging, media relations and digital influence strategies.

“The Laureates recognized by The Tech Awards have developed real technologies that can have an immediate impact on people’s lives. It feels good when you can apply what you know and the relationships you bring to a good cause,” said Luca Penati, managing director of Ogilvy PR’s Global Technology Practice. “The global Technology Practice team is thrilled and honored to serve as the communications partner in this year’s program.”

Ogilvy PR will work to position the 2007 Tech Awards as the leading humanitarian awards program in the world, increase visibility of The Tech within the cultural and technology arenas, promote the projects that are recognized by the awards program and attract future applicants and partners. Target audiences for Ogilvy PR’s communications efforts include potential participants, government and educational groups and the general public.

The Tech Museum Awards recognize and support solutions that benefit humanity and address some of the most critical issues facing people worldwide. The program celebrates innovators from around the globe in the categories of Education, Equality, Environment, Economic Development and Health. Each year, laureates are honored for harnessing the power and promise of technology and science to solve the most pressing global challenges of the 21st century as outlined by the United Nations. The 2007 Tech Museum Awards Gala will be held in November 2007 in San Jose, California.

Ogilvy PR joins a group of global outreach partners, including the United Nations Development Program, the American Council for the United Nations University and the World Bank Institute. Applied Materials serves as the award program’s presenting sponsor.

Last year’s cash prize recipients of The Tech Museum Awards included Laureates in the Health and Economic Development categories. The recipient of the Accenture Economic Development Award, for example, was honored for developing a water purification system using locally available materials used primarily by women to provide safe water for their families and generate income by selling the surplus. And a Japanese company received the Agilent Technologies Foundation Health Award for development of the first approved insecticide-embedded mosquito net for malaria protection.

Led by Ogilvy PR’s Technology Practice, the pro bono relationship will be based in Ogilvy PR’s San Francisco office with support from the network’s offices in Washington, New York City, the United Kingdom, France, India, Australia, Brazil and Chile, among others. Work begins immediately.
