Washington, DC, August 20, 2003 — The United Way of America today officially announced that Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide (Ogilvy PR) will serve as its Agency of Record, effective immediately. As Agency of Record, Ogilvy PR will handle all public relations for the national headquarters of the nation’s leading community impact provider.
“Through its work for the United Way on a variety of projects, Ogilvy PR has demonstrated that it understands how the United Way is evolving to meet the tremendous rate of economic, social and political change occurring in the communities we serve,” said Cynthia Round, executive vice president, strategy and marketing. “Ogilvy PR can help us reposition United Way from fundraiser to community change agent. It’s a pleasure to have them on our team.”
Prior to being named Agency of Record, Ogilvy PR had assisted the United Way of America on two separate initiatives—Success By 6, a national public-private partnership that enables communities to provide their children with the best opportunity to succeed by the time they begin school, and 2-1-1, an easy-to-remember telephone number that connects callers with important community services and volunteer opportunities.
“The United Way has long been one of the most recognized and most well-respected brands in the United States,” added Robert Mathias, managing director of Ogilvy PR’s Washington office. “We are excited to be part of the United Way of America’s effort to lead the philanthropic community as they confront the nation’s most pressing issues.”
“When the opportunity presented itself, the decision to consolidate our PR activity at Ogilvy PR was an easy one,” continued Round. “Ogilvy PR has an excellent reputation for doing superior work with brands and have demonstrated that they understand how to effectively apply brand management to non-profit organizations. We are excited about the opportunity to tap into this expertise.”
