Washington, D.C. - February 19, 2008 - Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide (Ogilvy PR), a leading global communications firm, announced today that it has been named public relations Agency of Record by Virgin America. Ogilvy PR will provide a full range of public relations services, including public affairs, corporate communications, crisis communications, digital influence strategy and special event management.
"Since before our launch, we have partnered with Ogilvy PR for full service public relations support. For a start up company without a huge PR staff, the tremendous resources of the Ogilvy PR network are invaluable," said Abby Lunardini, Virgin America's Director of Communications. "Our work together over the last year gives us full confidence that Ogilvy PR understands our brand, our company values and communications goals and will continue to be a trusted partner as we grow our airline."
The account will be led by Ogilvy PR's Washington, D.C. office with support from the agency's Los Angeles office. In 2007, Ogilvy PR provided public affairs support around the airline's certification and overall public relations and event management around the launch of the airline. Ogilvy PR was able to help promote the inaugural flights of each of the airline's six cities on Virgin America's growing route network. Virgin America is planning on adding 30 additional cities over the next five years, including Seattle on March 18.
"This partnership is a natural fit for two companies that have unique expertise and connection to communicating the value of a brand," said Robert Mathias, managing director of Ogilvy PR's Washington, D.C. office. "By striving to make flying fun again, Virgin America sets the bar extremely high for the quality of experience for their guests. We look forward to helping the company as they continue to grow and bring their premier sense of style, guest service and unique in-flight experience to U.S. travelers."
Virgin America is America's newest airline, offering flight service to cities including New York, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Diego and soon to Seattle. The airline's brand-new Airbus A320-family aircraft offer guests their own interactive in-flight entertainment systems, plugs for laptops and other portable electronics and a host of other features aimed at making flying good again. In Zagat's 2007 Global Airlines Survey of 7,500 frequent fliers, Virgin America was ranked number one among domestic carriers for overall quality in First/Business Class and second among domestic carriers for overall quality in the Main Cabin.
