Demonstrating a commitment to water preservation and conservation one mosque at a time.
As part of its broader CSR campaign GROHE launched the Green Mosque in Saudi Arabia – an initiative to install specialist water-saving fixtures in mosques where pre-prayer ablutions, five times a day, are a significant source of water usage.
The goal was to prove to Sharbatly Foundation GROHE’s global efforts to reverse the effects of irresponsible water practices by reducing water consumption by 30%. The supporting PR campaign used numerous reports outlining severe water shortages in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a platform to launch Green Mosque.
The Sharbatly Mosque in Jeddah witnessed an approximate 30% reduction in water consumption after GROHE’s sustainable water solutions were fitted in the ablution rooms. The PR campaign reached over 1.5 million people with coverage in key daily newspapers including the Saudi Gazette, Al Hayat, Al Madina and Al Sharq. The GROHE Green Mosque initiative has proved so successful at the Sharbatly Mosque, that in January 2013 a sales agreement was struck with the Hassan Abbas Sharbatly Foundation to install GROHE fittings to a further 19 mosques in Saudi Arabia.
