New York, NY, February 27, 2003 — Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide today announced that crisis management expert, Albert Tortorella, has joined the firm as a managing director and head of the Global Corporate Practice.
Mr. Tortorella joins Ogilvy Public Relations after spending more than two decades at Burson-Marsteller, where he held various executive positions, including vice chairman, Corporate Executive Office. Throughout his tenure at Burson-Marsteller, Mr. Tortorella advised some of the world’s largest companies in dealing with sensitive public issues.
“Al joins us at a time when companies are looking to public relations agencies to provide strong corporate and crisis management counsel,” said Marcia Silverman, CEO, Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide. “Having one of the most notable individuals in this sector join Ogilvy PR will help continue to provide our corporate clients with the best talent in the industry.”
Mr. Tortorella has represented clients including Tylenol, American Airlines, AT&T, Coca-Cola, Kraft, General Electric, and General Motors. Prior to working at Burson-Marsteller, Mr. Tortorella held positions at General Electric and The Wall Street Journal.
“Ogilvy PR’s unique branding approach to corporate and crisis management was one of the two main factors in my decision to join Ogilvy PR,” Mr. Tortorella said. Another important factor was the group of individuals, in both Ogilvy PR’s senior management team and corporate practice, that I will be associated with in continuing the great work of the corporate group.”
Mr. Tortorella joins a corporate practice that helps clients define and communicate their brand to a variety of audiences. The practice specializes in Workplace Performance, Business-to-Business Communications, Crisis and Issues Management, Financial & Investor Relations, Labor Relations and Executive Visibility.
Mr. Tortorella takes over the reigns of the Corporate Practice from London-based Rob Shimmin, who has headed the practice since July 2000. Prior to that, Mr. Shimmin was managing director of the firm’s Brussels office bringing his total service with Ogilvy PR to seven and a half years. Mr. Shimmin takes on a broader role as managing director for the Europe, Africa and Middle East (EAME) region. In this new position he will oversee business development, client service and brand visibility for Ogilvy PR regionally and will report to Marcia Silverman, Worldwide CEO, and Matthew Anderson, the firm’s regional chief executive for Asia Pacific and EAME.
“Rob has made an enormous contribution, not only to the Corporate Practice, but to Ogilvy PR as an entire network,” said Matthew Anderson. “His new role reflects our commitment to align senior talent with our regional clients.”
These changes come at a time of growth for the Ogilvy PR Corporate Practice. In the past three months, the practice has added such clients as Nasdaq, Jackson-Hewitt, FM Global, and Wavecom.
