New York, NY, August 18, 2003 — Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide/New York announced the promotions of Megan Svensen to group director in the Health and Medical Practice and Shellie Winkler to group director in the Corporate Practice. Both were previously executive vice presidents.
In addition to developing strategic and creative public relations programs for health-care clients, Ms. Svensen will lead the 50-person health and medical group. During her seven years with Ogilvy PR, Ms. Svensen specialized in programs for cardiovascular disease, women’s health and oncology, as well as expanding an expertise in sports marketing. Ms. Svensen’s account roles include the launch of successful programs such as the Take A Swing Against Prostate Cancer, a campaign with Merck & Company, Inc. and Major League Baseball to raise awareness of prostate cancer risk factors, and the brokering of the only two deals in history between the pharmaceutical industry and the National Football League. Her current client-related activities include oversight for product promotion and issues management for EMENDÒ and PROSCARÒ for Merck & Company, Inc., and PREVACIDÒ for TAP Pharmaceutical Products Inc.
Prior to joining Ogilvy PR, Ms. Svensen designed and executed highly effective marketing communications programs incorporating a mix of public relations, direct mail, advertising, internal training materials, employee communications and collateral materials for health care, insurance and financial services clients.
To her new role, Ms. Winkler brings more than 20 years of experience in marketing and corporate communications for corporations, management consultancies and not-for-profit organizations. Ms. Winkler spent the bulk of her career serving the pharmaceutical industry primarily in the areas of marketing communications, issues management and franchise and corporate positioning. Since joining the firm in January 2001, Ms. Winkler has worked on the behalf of such clients as Bristol-Myers Squibb, Johnson & Johnson, Merck & Company, Inc. and Hoffmann-La Roche.
Before joining Ogilvy PR, Ms. Winkler was the director of the Hill & Knowlton Global Health and Pharmaceutical Practice, where she was responsible for establishing the practice’s vision and strategic direction on a worldwide basis. She also served as the worldwide leader for the firm’s Johnson & Johnson business.
