Washington Women in Public Relations Names Jennifer Wayman as the 2007 "Washington PR Woman of the Year"

Seasoned Social Marketing Expert Wins One of Washington's Top Communications Honors

WASHINGTON, Nov. 14 — Jennifer Wayman, Senior Vice President/Co-Group Director, Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide (Ogilvy PR), was named “Washington PR Woman of the Year” by the Washington Women in Public Relations (WWPR) today at its annual awards ceremony. The award is presented to a public relations practitioner working in the Washington metropolitan area who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, integrity and community involvement.

“I am truly thrilled by this recognition,” Jennifer Wayman said.  “Washington Woman in PR gives so much to the Washington community, and I am proud to be acknowledged as their PR practitioner of the year.”

WWPR’s other nominees included Karen Doyne, Managing Director, Crisis & Issues Management, Burson-Marsteller and Juliette Rizzo, National Director, Exhibits and Events Planning, U.S. Department of Education.

“Jennifer is such an integral part of Ogilvy PR,” adds Robert Mathias, Managing Director of Ogilvy PR’s Washington office.  “This award is a true reflection of the tremendous impact she has on her clients and her colleagues.”

Wayman started her career in public relations as an intern with Ogilvy PR in 1991, as the Social Marketing practice was just beginning.  She now serves as a leader of the group overseeing a team of almost 60 and such clients as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and the Federal Trade Commission. She has been published numerous times, including her paper entitled "Competition: A Social Marketer's Friend or Foe?"  In addition, Jennifer and her team have designed and implemented numerous award-winning campaigns on behalf of some of Ogilvy PR’s top clients.

"WWPR is proud to honor these three extraordinary women," said WWPR President Lisa McCluskey, "and to recognize the many achievements and contributions that women bring to the public relations industry, their co-workers and their community."

Helen Thomas, "The First Lady of the Press" and syndicated columnist for Hearst Newspapers, was the keynote speaker. A portion of the proceeds from the event went to WWPR's pro bono client, Doorways for Women and Families.
