Luncheon Session: Time for a Green New Deal?
The current financial crisis should not overshadow an even more pressing crisis facing mankind: environmental degradation and global warming. The UN Secretary General has called for a “Green New Deal,” urging governments to increase investments in clean energy, eco-agriculture, as well as energy-efficient transportation and housing. Is his call for a “Green New Deal” a realistic one in addressing both environmental degradation/global warming and economic slowdown in this time of economic hardship? How do we best incentivize countries and organizations to “go green”? Which organizations have taken the lead in going green and what can the rest of us learn from them?
