Ogilvy Public Relations and The National Social Marketing Centre (NSMC) Form Strategic Partnership

LONDON – 14th March 2013, Ogilvy Public Relations and the National Social Marketing Centre (NSMC) today announced a strategic partnership to further the integration of public sector and private sector behavioural and social marketing expertise into campaign strategies.

The NSMC will co-locate with Ogilvy Public Relations/London at the firm’s Canary Wharf office, with immediate effect.

The strategic partnership will allow Ogilvy Public Relations to offer NSMC's public sector expertise and best practices to Ogilvy's private sector clients. The NSMC will in turn be able to share Ogilvy's private sector marketing expertise with public sector clients. Under this agreement, Ogilvy PR staff will be trained by the NSMC to further the behavioural marketing expertise of its offices across the world, building on an existing, market-leading capability based in Ogilvy PR Washington (DC).

Through its global Social Marketing Practice, Ogilvy PR offers an extensive network of marketing and human behaviour experts dedicated to helping people lead healthier, safer, happier lives. The practice has decades of experience helping public and private sector clients tackle diverse social, health, safety, and environmental challenges. The NSMC is a globally recognised organisation, accredited by the Chartered institute of Marketing for social marketing training. It consults clients across Europe, the Middle-East and Asia, including governments and international organisations.

Stuart Smith, CEO EAME and Managing Director, Global Corporate Practice, Ogilvy Public Relations said:

“Behaviour change is the new goal for many campaigns. The demand for campaigns which truly put the behaviour change specialism at their centre has increased markedly in the last five years. Companies are keen to learn lessons from Governments and NGOs who have pioneered this work. The alliance with the NSMC formalises and extends our ability to offer social marketing expertise to new and existing clients outside the USA.

“This capability is particularly relevant to companies who are seeking to campaign to consumers on issues which may traditionally be a part of the corporate social responsibility agenda and are beyond traditional product marketing campaigns.”

John Bromley, Managing Director of NSMC, said:

“The coming together of the NSMC and Ogilvy Public Relations is a truly exciting opportunity. We have the combined skills, expertise and in-depth knowledge of both the private and public sector to drive real behaviour change. The private sector is starting to realise the benefits of acting in a more socially sustainable way to maintain customer’s trust and to secure the long term sustainability of their businesses.

“The NSMC has the market-leading skills in researching and implementing social marketing programmes and Ogilvy Public Relations has an in-depth understanding of the commercial environment as well as a proven track record in building consumer brand reputations. We believe this partnership will deliver the kind of joined up approach that will spark smarter, more effective, campaigns andwe look forward to the challenge.”

Founded by Government in 2006, the NSMC has developed award winning government behavioural marketing programmes including a national capacity building programme for the NHS, in which it trained over 4000 staff, and a six months capacity building programme for USAID; working with NGO’s in the environmental sector in Jordan.
